Chanery Lane Primitives Doll

Chancery Lane Primitives

Chancery Lane Primitives was born seven years ago when Sandie and her family relocated to Rochester, NY. She has been in the "hand made" business for 40 years. A very precocious child, she has been creating dolls and "art" since she was able to move a brush. Sandie considers herself a Folk Artist of "The Primitive Way." Creating original primitive dolls, pin keeps, critters and such is her passion. These original designs and creations are often referred to as OOAK in the primitive collector circles. Choosing materials of vintage fabric, quilts, buttons, old children's clothes, and smalls upon which she places her items lets her creativity soar. for those who are familiar with the world of primitives a small refers to a small antique item such as bobbin, an old metal iron or any small antique which a primitive artisan may place a handmade fabric item, like a bird or an animal.

Sandie's empty nest has been filled with original primitive creatures featuring whimsical faces. A customer described her work as "A strange and wonderful group of inbred and dysfunctional family members, including the critters" and that was a compliment! Laughing, Sandie's husband, Charlie, worries about her state of mind when he sees the faces of her created "family". Truly, Sandie says she sees only time worn and much loved babies, beauty oozes from them all in her eyes. How that is expressed, she states, continually changes.

In addition to her web site, Chancery Lane Primitives, Sandie sells her art in several Finger Lakes shops and a beautiful Country Inn B&B. She is actively involved in promoting and exhibiting in several Folk Art shows in the western New York area.

Sandie's sewn creations live in many places: Saudi Arabia, Germany and Holland to name a few. To be able to find those who appreciate her work is most gratifying. Her original one-of-a-kind dolls have a special style to them that has evolved over time. Her business continues to grow as she learns the tricks of the trade. Her new web site was one Internet adventure and she is in the process of creating a blog, so besides her sewing, her days are busy. "This is a wonderful business we are in...life is good," says Sandie.
